RELATED STORIES

Ox month starts on 5th January on what is described as ‘Xiao Han’ or lesser cold in the Chinese solar calendar. This Ox month comes at the tail of the Ox, at the end of an Ox year. Following the tail of the Ox we have the head of the Tiger. Tiger month starts on 4th February 2010, which also marks the beginning of the year of the Tiger. Celebrations for Chinese New Year actually take place with the start of the lunar new year on 14th February 2010.

The lunar new year, 14th February, starts with the second new moon after the Winter Solstice. The new moon in Ox month falls on the 15th January. If you someone who likes to start the year with new year resolutions, but find they quickly fall by the wayside, consider letting go of your old habits and starting new ways of being with the new moon on the 15th. That gives you an extra couple of weeks to really think about what you want, where you want to be going and how to get the new year off to a positive start.

Ox month is the last month in the Chinese calendar and it is the last month of the winter season. This Ox month is a fire ox month at the end of an earth Ox year. Since the Ox is pre-dominantly earth energy, all that earthiness means we are not going to move too quickly, so take it easy if you find you are struggling with making and keeping those new year resolutions.

As you embark on another cycle around the sun, looking back can help you see how far you have come on your journey and to acknowledge yourself for what has been achieved. When you have reflected on all that has happened in the past year, look forwards and look to where you are going, for you are at the start of another cycle. At the end of the Ox tail, a flame burns a fire as winter draws to a close. Will the light shine on a new path ahead and is there enough of a spark to light up new enthusiasm?

Check your animal sign to see how the month of the fire Ox wraps up the end of the Ox year:
