A newly released report on the employment conditions of Shanghai women found that about 10 percent do not want to get a job. This was especially true among women aged 30-39.
The report found that the average income of those unemployed women is about 170 euros, much higher than the average income of workers in the city who have been laid-off.
An expert from the city's Federation of Women said that those women who are reluctant to work usually come from wealthy families, whose parents or husbands can afford to support the family. Some women also left work initially on maternity leave, or due to problems that make it hard for them to go back to work afterwards.
The report mentioned that women who have left work are usually reluctant to go back to work. They also lose their enthusiasm to find jobs after they have been unemployed for a long time.
