After fourteen years of construction, the Shanghai World Financial Center will finally open its doors to the public tomorrow.
The 492-meter, 101-storey high building, which is owned by Japanese developer Mori Building Co. Ltd, is the tallest structure in mainland China and the third tallest building in the world. It is surpassed only by Dubai Tower and Taipei 101 in Taiwan.
The structure is a mixed-use skyscraper, with hotels, offices, shops and an observation deck. The observation deck, the highest in the world, will open to the public tomorrow at 2pm.
According to Shanghai Daily, the project began in 1994 and construction started in 1997. Building was halted in 1998 due to the Asian financial crisis. Construction resumed in 2003.
