US President George W. Bush met Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Yi yesterday morning at the White House. Wu Yi was in Washington DC for the second round of the China-US Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED).
Wu gave President Bush a briefing about the just-concluded SED, saying that the talks were a major decision made by the presidents of the two countries.
She said that the success of the SED was proof that China and the US can increase understanding and mutual trust through frank dialogue in an era of accelerating globalization.
President Bush, for his part, stressed the importance of SED to bilateral relations. He also reiterated his stand on the Taiwan issue, saying that the opposed any change in the status quo across the Taiwan Straits.
