The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will lend 150 million USD (110.5 million euros) for an environment project in Anhui province.

According to Xinhua, an ADB official said that the project hopes to improve wastewater and waste management, river rehabilitation and flood control and improvement of road infrastructure and traffic management.

For the 4.5 million residents of the provincial capital of Hefei, water pollution and flooding are major hazards.

The ADB official was quoted by Xinhua as saying that "the project will help improve the quality of life in Hefei by reducing the incidence of water- and airborne diseases, road accidents and vehicle emissions."

The balance of the 372.4 million USD (274.4 million euros) project will be shouldered by the provincial government.

Last year, China received 21 percent, or 1.6 billion USD (1.18 million euros), of the 7.4 billion USD (5.45 billion euros) loans that the ADB approved.
