China is hosting the Global Think Tank Summit which opened in Beijing on Thursday. The summit will see some 900 of the world's best in the business circle meeting discussing solutions for the world financial crisis and the development of the global economy.

Vice Premier Li Keqiang, who gave the keynote speech at the opening ceremony, said that China's government would continue its efforts to boost consumption, investment and exports, a report in China Daily said.

He said the government will also focus on developing issues like alternative energy and continue with reforms and opening up.

The summit, which runs for three days, gathered about 30 of the world's top think tanks from around the world and was also attended by statesmen, Nobel laureates and CEOs from the world's top 100 companies.

The summit is organized by the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE), China's newly-established “super think tank.”

The CCIEE is headed by retired Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan. Established four months ago, the think tank aims to remain independent in both financing and operation despite its close ties with the government, China Daily said.
