Many second-tier Chinese cities are becoming ideal places for overseas investment. Sir David Brewer, Chairman of the China-Britain Business Council, recently visited Hangzhou, capital of eastern China's Zhejiang Province, to explore the city's investment environment. He says he was impressed by Hangzhou's ability to accommodate foreign investors. Xiao Hong brings more details.

Shaoxing city in eastern China's Zhejiang Province, which has the largest textile market in Asia, was hit hard by the global financial crisis. The city underwent a bitter winter last year, with export slumps and factory shut downs. Thanks to both central and local governments' supportive measures, Shaoxing's textile industry saw a recovery in the first quarter.

Chen Fei, a farmer in east China's Zhejiang Province, won the title Green China Person of the Year in 2008. The award was presented to Chen and other recipients at a ceremony held in Beijing last December. He won the honor for his outstanding contributions to environmental protection initiatives.

Yongkang (永康) is an ancient city in east China's Zhejiang Province. The Yongkang River winds through the urban district of the city. Down on the lower reaches of the river, there is a three hundred-year-old gallery bridge called Xijin (西津). For more than ten years, a group of elderly local people have gathered at the bridge everyday to chat and socialize.

Confucius is considered the greatest of the ancient Chinese sages. Matteo Ricci, an Italian missionary who came to China during the Ming Dynasty 400 years ago, was the first to translate the four major Confucian classics into Latin. This year marks the 2,559th anniversary of the sage's birth.
